At Studio Hedg, we are Chartered Architects (RIBA, ARB) committed to creating homes that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally responsible and fundamentally healthier for the people who live in them.

Our client relationship is an end-to-end partnership, grounded in a philosophy of Mindful Contextual Design and a dedication to the Circular Economy. We guide you from the initial design concept to the moment you turn the key, helping to minimise your stress.

Phase 1: Deep Discovery and Contextual Analysis

We begin by moving beyond a simple brief. We assess your lifestyle and how the new design can enhance your well-being. Crucially, this phase involves a detailed contextual analysis of your site, considering the microclimate, orientation, sun paths, and existing neighbourhood character. This informs our fundamental approach to passive design, ensuring we maximise natural light and layout for optimal thermal comfort, setting the stage for a home that actively supports your circadian rhythm.

Phase 2: Sustainable and High-Performance Design

The design phase is where our commitment to sustainability becomes tangible and actionable. We strategically incorporate:

  1. Carbon Reduction: Prioritising materials with low embodied carbon and resilient construction methods.
  2. Building Health: Designing the building envelope to manage moisture and prevent mould, ensuring excellent air quality.
  3. Future-Proofing: Implementing features that align with the circular economy—creating durable structures that are easy to adapt and maintain for long-term value and reduced waste.

We manage all necessary planning documents and navigate the complexities of building control regulations on your behalf, providing certainty and clarity.

Phase 3: Selection and Specification Integrity

Before construction, we help select a suitable contractor. Our detailed specifications are paramount, ensuring that the builder understands the stringent performance targets for energy efficiency and the use of sustainable materials. We act as your advocate during the tender process, guaranteeing that the vision for a low-carbon, high-performance home is accurately costed and protected.

Phase 4: Quality Oversight and Completion

During construction, we serve as your principal designer and the Contract Administrator, actively visiting the site to monitor progress and ensure quality. Our oversight is crucial for ensuring the sophisticated passive design strategies (e.g., airtightness, thermal bridging) are executed correctly. This active role ensures that the building delivered is precisely the healthier, energy-efficient, and context-aware home we designed together.
